What Is Road Shield?
The Advanced Driving Academy Road Shield Standard is a voluntary road safety initiative designed and delivered to standardise effective road safety practices and procedures across businesses. Driving or riding for work is often one of the highest risk activities that employees and workers undertake. The Road Shield Standard is designed to work with businesses, fleet operators, drivers and riders to assess, monitor and develop processes and skills to reduce risk and protect businesses and road users.

Road Shield is designed to protect and develop business' road safety strategies and management.

Our expert team review vehicle safety levels to ensure that they are roadworthy and licensed.

The Road Shield Recognition Scheme
We work with businesses and fleet operators to, assess, support, manage and improve road safety standards. The scope of the scheme covers all aspects of road safety from Human Resources and Fleet Management processes, through to vehicle condition and driver/rider training.
The standard defines the requirements that must be met by fleet operators with businesses working towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation. Upon achieving the accreditation, business and fleet operators will be recognised as having made a concerted effort to achieve a standard of road safety which may be beneficial in attracting new customers and employees.
Management
As part of working towards the accreditation, our team will work with management to identify and plan a comprehensive strategy for achieving your business' road safety goals. At a management level this will be implemented in line with business and HR policies and procedures, to ensure that a culture of safety can be implemented. To achieve the desired standard, management must evidence the following:

Operations
At an Operations level, our team will work with your business to explore and identify the strengths and weaknesses of your road safety strategy. The scope of this work is to identify areas of potential improvement and growth from a systems, training, vehicle management and operational perspective to implement processes and procedures that achieve the key goals as set out in the standard.
In line with this, we also explore, assess and recommend strategies for improving vehicle management policies and procedures. This encompasses a variety of areas including licensing, serviceability and roadworthiness, insurance and checks.
Training and Up-skilling
A key component of the Road Shield Standard is the training and up-skilling of drivers and riders. In line with the managerial and operational elements of the accreditation, it is key that drivers and riders within organisations have received the relevant training for their job role and hold the required licences to operate the vehicles that they drive for work.
The required training will vary based on job role and vehicle type. This can range from general defensive driver and rider training through to more specialised training including ADR courses for the transportation of hazardous goods.
